The zoo, the temple, and the park ...

Good morning!  It is 6 in the morning here, and I can't ever seem to sleep past 5 or so.  At least last night I went to bed early and got almost 8 hrs of sleep.  Rachel and Silas are sleeping very well, so I am grateful for that.

Yesterday we went to the zoo and the park.  There were not very many zoo animals out, so we walked around in the cold for a while.  It is very cold here and while I have a nice coat for Rachel, I did not bring snow pants type things.  I had two pairs of pants and a blanket wrapped around her, but the grandma's in the park were all stopping and yelling at me for not having enough clothes on her.

We make quite a show here.  If we stop to look at something at the park, people all come up and just stare at us.  So we are just standing there chatting and there are about 10 people standing very close to us just watching us and commenting to each other.  Of course we have no idea what they are saying.  Well, Amanda and our guide know, but we don't know.

At the park we saw a Buddhist temple.  It was the 15th of the lunar month so there were a lot of people worshiping there.  The good thing for us was there was a fire where they were burning the incense so we were able to warm up.  We went up to look at the idols in the buildings and an old lady was inviting us to come in......we declined.  People were bowing before them and leaving fruit and flowers and money.  All ages of people were there, kids to old people.  It was something.

Rachel is doing so well through all of this.  We were able to get a borrowed stroller, so she rode quietly the whole time.  Anytime she could see Silas doing something silly, like slide around on the ice or jump off a little wall, she would totally crack up.  It is so cute to hear her and she totally thinks that Silas is the best big brother ever.

We went down to our friends room who have a 14-year-old daughter and Rachel was playing peek a boo with her, and giggling a ton.  She is so cute and I think she knows it!  She just smiles at and charms everyone.

Today we go to the museum.  This afternoon we get the babies' passports.  And tomorrow morning we leave for Guangzhou where all the U.S. paperwork takes place.
